Yea, well i just want some tips for fishing trout, like what flies to use, i know how to cast and how to fight a fish, so, please help.

first, you need to what kind and what size of trout you have in your area, then the type of water you're fishing. if you're fishing a creek full of stocked rainbows, they'll hit about anything. if some tiny limestone creek with real picky browns, you'll need a 9' leader with a super fine tippet and match the hatch very closely. all that said, use a size 8 muddler minnow. work it either dry or wet. almost anything eats them. they resemble lots of different forage.

I'm looking for a quality fishing reel that will last a long time. (...)

I'm looking for a quality fishing reel that will last a long time. I have used almost a dozen of fishing reels over the years and I can't seem to find a reel that does not break within a year!!!. I fished with a Penn reel and even that failed on me!!!. I don't want to spend more than $65.00. Any suggestions?

I Fish the Salt water surf real hard, almost every day in season. I have been using 2 Cabelas Salt Striker Metal for 4 years now and they are still 100% mechanically and smooth, the paint is a little chipped but that's normal. Here are some tips to keeping your reels working great.
1. Unscrew the reel case(were the gears are) and pack it with red or blue bearing grease. I mean PACK IT. This helps keep most of the salt water and sand from getting to your gears and corroding them.

2.Try to rinse your reel with fresh water every-time or at least most of the times you return from a trip, especially if it fall in the sand or water.

3. Clean out the reel grease once a year and pack it with new grease.

You won't be disappointed with this reel, here it is, make sure its the METAL one, there are two models, the other one has a plastic body and will not last. Oh by the way, if you don't like the color of the SS Metal, I believe the Pfleugar Medalist is the same reel, I will try to post it. Good Luck

Stephani,
Welcome to the Yahoo Answers Community!
I can't tell you how to fish for salmon in a pond, but here on the coast in California we mooch for salmon using anchovies. Mooching is basically lowering a whole anchovy into the water while parked in a boat.
Another method is trolling, where the boat is going about 1 to 2 miles per hour. A heavy weight (about 8 pounds) is used to keep the bait low in the water while moving. There are strong opinions on which method is best.
Good luck fishing.

What kind of fish can i keep in a 10 gallon tank? Are they're any kinds of freshwater "suckers" or freshwater catfish that can be kept in a 10 gallon tank? (...)

What kind of fish can i keep in a 10 gallon tank? Are they're any kinds of freshwater "suckers" or freshwater catfish that can be kept in a 10 gallon tank? Also, how hard is it to take care of a fish and what all do i need to keep my fish alive and healthy in the tank?
Also, about how much would the fish cost?
I'm sorry so many questions. But, I've never owned a fish until now.

Think small fish.

Goldfish will outgrow a 10gal, as will Dojo Loaches.

Best catfish option for a 10 gal is a few small cory catfish. There are various species, and some only grow to 1" long.

Then you could keep a dwarf gourami, a betta, or a school of small fish like Neons, White Cloud Minnows or other small schooling fish.

A 10 gal tank does limit what you can keep, but there are plenty of good (small) options that will work.

Have read of some good fishkeeping web sites like http://www.fishlore.com/ and you will learn a lot.

The trick to successfull fish keeping is setting up a stable environment in the aquarium. Look after the tank and water, and the fish will take care of themselves. Try and care for the fish like you do a hamster or a kitten - fail every time

None of the fish I have mentioned are expensive, a few dollars each.

Ian

I am moving to Pennsylvania, the so called fly fishing capitol of the us, and think it sounds really fun. (...)

I am moving to Pennsylvania, the so called fly fishing capitol of the us, and think it sounds really fun. I am a big ocean fisherman, i own a boston whaler 24 outrage and and getting pretty good at ocean fishing. What should i buy and where do i buy it.

Firstly i will mention this, but im sure you know this already, fly fishing is nothing like saltwater off-shore fishing! so bear that in mind when casting and striking, or it will result in a lot of lost fish.
Now for the actual equipment-how much do you want to spend?
For a half decent fly rod i would suggest spending about $150, however cheaper rods can eb picked up for around $75, either used or from the cheaper brands like redington.

Rod weight- as already mentioned a 6wt medium to fast action will be your best option- a six weight will cover most rivers and lakes when your just starting out.

Reel- a simple large arbor will suit when starting out, even the simple graphite versions for about $30 will cover you for most situations when starting out, as you move on and get better you might want to upgrade to a better more robust reel, like an abel etc.

Lines- a WF (weight forward) six weight floater is all you need to start with, you can still fish streamers etc on a floater, providing you use a long leader such as fluorocarbon.
You can buy a second line, if you do buy an intermediate, a full sinker isn't needed at this point.
When buying a line buy the best you can afford, as cheap lines just do NOT work, good brands-rio, airflo, orvis.

Other than that a spool of co-polymer is needed for tippets and one tapered leader, about 9ft long breaking strain of about 6lb-depending again on where you are fishing.

A lighter leader is needed for dries anything from 4lb to 1/2lb.

Rods i would take a serious look at- are the sage Launch. They are made by Sage, which is a good thing, life time warranty and plenty of power in the lower blank. They will suit you even when you become better and your casting improves.

Sage rods

Co-polymer leader works for dries and wets

Ive been out ice fishing a couple of times on this pond that has bass, perch and trout. I catch some trout every now and then, and the perch are almost a nuisance. Im really trying to catch the bass, but its very slow. anyone have any tips?

What bait/lure are you using? Minnows or Shad should catch some Bass in a short amount of time. Bass will readily take Beetle Spins, Curly Tailed Grubs and Plastic Worms through the ice. For bait, i would stick with minnows or shad. You could use night crawlers also, but if they're bluegills in the pond they'll get 'em before the bass.
Hope i helped ya out.

Please refer to them as rods. Poles are for flag flying, sitting, and maypoles.
There are a good many top quality brands. The best in my opinion are G Loomis. But they are pricey. If you are just starting out, the store brands from Cabelas are excellent.
I am quite fond of their Fish Eagle II rods. I have purchased several rods in the 100 range, and still do not have the skills to know the difference between that and one that is 300. I can however tell the difference between 50 dollar rods and 100 dollar ones.
Other excellent companies are Fenwick, St. Croix, Sage,
and Lamiglas

I was at a sporting goods shop today and noticed that there were fishing reels that were different sizes. Some were attached to Ugly Stiks and were a lot smaller than the Shimano ones. (...)

I was at a sporting goods shop today and noticed that there were fishing reels that were different sizes. Some were attached to Ugly Stiks and were a lot smaller than the Shimano ones. Does the size of the fishing reel affect the size of the fish you catch???

The only reason fishing reels come in those different sizes is because they are each, so to speak, weight classes. The smallest of the reels is designed for light class lines (2,4,6 lb) the next size up will most likely 8,10,12 lb, next size up, 12,15,20, so on, and so forth. Next time you look at those reels, look closely at the spools, they will have numbers. For example: I'm looking at one of my rods, and the numbers are; 2/195 4/125 6/65 Which represents the recommended line sizes, and an approx. of how much you can put on the spool. For 6 lb test, it says It would only be able to safely accomodate up to 65 yards of that line(since 6 lb test has a larger diameter than say, 4 lb test). Which will help you decide exactly how much line you will need to buy. And since lines come in vast amount of length spools to buy, you wouldnt need 300 yards of line (unless you like to respool quite often) when 150 yards will be sufficient. And I recommend keeping extra line handy in case your line snaps when you have alot of line out. Or you get a nasty bird nest, you can quickly change the line, and get back to fishing.

And the size gear to size fish ratio…no such thing. Living in the middle of florida where I know the only thing I will catch when I got fishing in a lake around here, is a bass. I will use light gear. like a 4-8lb outfit. I've actually caught a 5lb bass on 4lb test. Just remember to adjust your drag accordingly, (25% of the breaking strength of the line). So keep in mind what your fishing for, and how big they get, and prepare accordingly. And use common knowledge; if your going grouper fishing, your not going to want to use 10lb test. for obvious reasons. And theres no telling how big of fish your going to catch, they dont line up and let you pick them out to catch, unfortuantely, it doesnt work that way.
